Agree to Disagree
While saying, “We will have to agree to disagree” is sometimes a genuine way to move away from a contentious topic in business where both sides are making compelling points, this one is especially annoying because it’s most often used by the excessively passive-aggressive in your company.
You know the type: the jerk manager who’s always right; whose opinions are relayed as facts; who knows little about most topics but wants to appear as the expert on everything.
When this blockhead finds he’s in an unwinnable argument, he’ll never admit it. Instead, he’ll agree to disagree.
Ugh, what a twit.
We have a better idea. How about we all agree that you’re wrong? Moreover, how about we all agree that you’re wrong way more often than you’re right? Finally, how about we all agree that you should stop talking in meetings and try listening occasionally?
Of course, if we presented this annoying manager with these options, he’d just tell us we’ll have to agree to disagree.
Ugh, what a twit.
Replacement phrases: No replacement needed; let’s just all agree to agree this one should be stricken from everyone’s vocabulary.
