Go-Getter
Today – you annoying manager you – you talk about the grind and how much you hustle. If we were sitting in your office a century ago, and you wanted to explain to those of us who don’t really care about your alleged strong work ethic, you’d describe yourself as a real go-getter.
And, as is true today with the grinders and hustlers, your coworkers would hate you even more than they already did.
As annoying as this phrase was a hundred years ago, this antiquated description of someone who aggressively pursues all opportunities has unfortunately never died. While no one today would call themselves a go-getter, there are still annoying managers hanging onto this term.
Ask them about that new employee and they’ll tell you “he’s a real go-getter.”
Really? Where does he go and what exactly does he get? Also, why is he a “real” go-getter? Are there fake go-getters out there?
Hmm, now that we write that, we suppose there are. They’re the ones posting memes about how hard they’re working; how much they grind; how much they hustle; how they’re always crushing it.
This makes us genuinely miss the days when we had real go-getters among us.
